What is a SEGNUT?
It’s a brilliantly simple idea that is a direct replacement for a standard hex nut, and ensures nuts release when you want them to – no gas axing, no grinding, no special tools and no lost production time – just a quick, safe and easy way to release the nut. Designed and engineered in Australia, this patented technology has been recognised as the future of nut technology globally.
How does the SEGNUT work?
The SEGNUT works by using nut segments which are assembled together and held in place with an outer sleeve. The SEGNUT is attached to a fastener using conventional methods (spanners, sockets etc). To release, the outer sleeve is rotated just a few degrees using conventional tools which then allows the nut segments to release away from the fastener. The really clever part? The outer sleeve is rotated in the tightening direction which means that there is never a situation that the nut becomes loose and then rotates the whole fastener.
What is the advantage of a SEGNUT over a conventional nut?
Quick, safe and easy removal. SEGNUTs can be removed in seconds. Whether it’s rusted, has damaged threads or is on a long thread, it will come off in seconds.
When will SEGNUTs become generally available?
Limited supplies are available now. General availability will be in the second half of 2015. For volume orders, please contact us directly.
Is the SEGNUT as strong as traditional nuts?
Yes, SEGNUTs are designed, manufactured, and tested to appropriate standards for nuts.
Do you need specialist tools to install and remove a SEGNUT?
No. SEGNUT’s can be installed, and removed, with standard tools such as sockets and spanners.
What materials and finishes are SEGNUTs available in?
Carbon steel and Dacromat-finished SEGNUTs are currently available. Other materials and finishes are possible upon enquiry (contact us directly)
In a marine environment, or over time, won’t the outer casing of a SEGNUT rust onto the inner segments rendering it as difficult to remove as a normal nut?
No, unlike a normal nut, the SEGNUT has been designed and tested to enable the outer sleeve to release even when rusted – see our demonstration videos here.
Is the SEGNUT only used once, or can you reassemble it and reuse it?
In accordance with accepted industry practice, a nut (and its related fastener) should only be used once. However, technically, the SEGNUT can be removed like a standard nut (providing thread binding/rust does not prevent this) and re-used. Once the sleeve has been released and the nut segments freed, the SEGNUT cannot be reused.
If a SEGNUT is damaged, does it them become impossible to remove?
No, the SEGNUT has been designed to have a high tolerance to damage. However, so long as the outer sleeve can be gripped and rotated, it will allow release of the nut.
Do you ship SEGNUTs internationally?
Yes. Please please contact us directly for international shipments.
Does the SEGNUT need to be assembled in-situ or are they purchased pre-assembled ready for use?
SEGNUTs come ready to use, just like a standard nut.
It is possible for the outer casing of the SEGNUT to rattle loose in extreme conditions?
The SEGNUT has been designed and tested for use in extreme conditions, including high g-force vibrations. Our testing has shown that the SEGNUT has excellent vibration tolerance. For further information please contact us directly.
What is the largest size the SEGNUT will scale up to?
SEGNUT has been designed in a range for sizes from M12 to M48. Sizes outside of this range are possible upon request.
